Fast Mode#

The Fast Mode feature available on blaze cameras allows you to achieve the maximum frame rate of 30 fps. However, enabling it also reduces the measurement accuracy.

How It Works#

In normal operating mode, blaze cameras take eight subframes per frame (image) at different frequencies. If the FastMode parameter is enabled, only four subframes are taken. If the OperatingMode parameter is set to ShortRange, the subframes are taken at high frequencies (100 MHz). If the OperatingMode parameter is set to LongRange, the subframes are taken at low frequencies (15 MHz).

This allows for an increase in the frame rate. It also reduces motion artifacts that are caused by the eight exposures used in normal operating mode. The downside is that the resulting depth data is going to be less accurate. This is most noticeable when working in Long Range mode.

By default, the FastMode parameter is disabled. The general recommendation is to only enable it if you require higher frame rates or you want to reduce motion artifacts.
